About Us

Our Work

Our story began in 2013 with the team founder, Dr. Humam Akbik, Beth Tammaro and a number of volunteers from various specialties. The team’s tasks grew and the humanitarian crisis continued. Today, we are proud of a more than 2260 volunteers from various countries of the world, united by a common humanitarian goal of providing support and humanitarian assistance to those in need from inside and outside Syria.

AHR is a large family of volunteers who have dedicated their efforts to implementing multiple humanitarian projects by providing medical and surgical assistance to Syrians and refugees. The team also provides various humanitarian aid through an organized work mechanism.
We believe that volunteer work is the path to a better future, and is keen to cooperate with various humanitarian organizations and local partners to ensure the largest possible number of beneficiaries to achieve a sustainable impact, and contribute to alleviating the suffering of those affected.

Atlantic Humanitarian Relief (AHR) is proud to be one of the first NGOs to introduce an offline Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system in remote and underserved areas. In April 2025, during our medical mission in Syria, we successfully deployed this technology in regions with little to no internet access. The EMR enabled doctors, pharmacists, and volunteers to securely record, store, and access patient data on the spot—without relying on connectivity. This innovation ensured accurate diagnoses, proper medication tracking, and continuity of care across clinics, setting a new benchmark for how humanitarian missions can combine technology and compassion to deliver life-saving care in the most challenging environments.

Atlantic Humanitarian Relief, Inc. (AHR) is a non-political, Boston-based 501(c)(3) non-profit and Jordan registered non-governmental organization (NGO). Our Employer Identification Number (EIN) is 461749616.

Our Vision & Mission

Atlantic Humanitarian Relief’s (AHR) mission is to provide humanitarian support and healthcare with dignity and equity while enhancing rapid crisis response for lasting impact.

AHR believes that giving is a responsibility and that every human being has the right to healthcare and humanitarian support. Since our establishment, we have extended a helping hand to those in need through medical and relief projects that address real challenges and create a meaningful impact.

AHR engages with local/regional services and collaborates with them regarding how best to provide evidence based essential healthcare services in primary and secondary care. Moreover, collaborating with local organizations, communities and services to co- develop essential learning, training and research is a core value at AHR and our collaborators.
